Ronald Roy Hicks
Ronald Roy Hicks, 80, of Henrico, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Hicks was a native of Surry County, NC, the son of the late William Mack Hicks and Stella May Midkiff Hicks. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Hicks. Ronald graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, DC. He entered the Navy in 1951 and graduated in the top 5 of a class of 150 in bootcamp. He served as a corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and on the H.C.S. NTCBainbridge. He served on this ship to Nova Scotia. He received the National Defense Service Medal. He was a salesman for District Wholesale Drug for 22 years in Washington, DC. He moved to Salisbury, MD and was part owner in a pharmacy there. Ronald was also a salesman with Federal Paper Company in Federalsburg, MD. He moved to Florida and was a real estate agent until 2005, when he and his wife moved to Henrico, NC. Ronald was an avid fisherman, sports fan, and loved doing woodwork and working in the flower gardens. He was a very loving and caring husband, father and friend and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Winnie, of the home; two daughters, Carol Evans and her husband, Bobby, and Linda Hicks, all of Salisbury, MD; his son, Dr. Steven Hicks and his wife, Dina, of Vera, FL; two stepdaughters, Denise Sawyer and her husband, Gilman, of Williamsburg, VA and Beverly Riggs and her husband, Clay, of Riddle, NC; his stepson, Gary Hall and his wife, Barbara, of Smithfield, VA; nineteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles Hicks and his wife, Jan, of Waynesville, NC; and his aunt, Annie Riggs, of Mt. Airy, NC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 1:00 pm at Rockawalkin Church in Hebron, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 112 Long Circle, Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.
